DEVON OPEN STUDIOS 2021
This year’s Devon Open Studios was exceptionally busy for me, with 240 visitors and a considerable number of sales across my range of monotypes, etchings, wood engravings, and printed sketchbooks.
I have been opening my studios in September for over twenty years and I have always found it stimulating and interesting talking to visitors. Between visits I can continue working, either making new monotypes on ‘Harry’, my etching press, or engraving on the end-grain of boxwood, then printing my wood engravings on ‘Fred’, my Albion press.
In early September I was honoured to be given the Devon Open Studios Heather Jansch Award 2021, and to be featured on Spotlight television. The annual Devon-wide Open Studios event is well publicised and goes from strength to strength. It gives people the chance to meet and see artists at work in their own studio spaces, and to buy their work at very affordable prices. It is heartening to find that people are searching out and buying unique handmade art.
As a member of several other exhibiting groups in Devon, I always have some pieces of work showing elsewhere. The next exhibition in which I am participating is the 21 Group’s show, which will be at Birdwood House in Totnes from 7th -14th November this year. And next year looks as if it will be busy as well.
